How to make CBD cream at home?

We can prepare different types of creams depending on the final mixture and the type of compounds that we use. The easiest and cheapest way is to start with a few CBD-rich marijuana buds and prepare a cream that will contain many of the cannabinoids and terpenes present in the flowers. However, it can also be made from a pure CBD extraction, to which we can add or not terpenes or other compounds. The latter would be, logically, a more professional option, although in the case of working only with CBD crystals (pure CBD) the benefits of the so-called entourage effect would be lost, by which the various compounds (cannabinoids and terpenes) enter into synergy and enhance / modulate its effects.

In order not to complicate things too much (and being aware of the high price of pure CBD and isolated terpenes) we will show you how to prepare cream from CBD buds. We will divide the process into 2 steps and we will give you a brief explanation of the reason for each one, in this way you will know what you are doing at each moment and why. Do not be scared by the theory, you will see that it is about very simple steps! Let’s review before we start what we are going to need to make our own cannabis cream. Of course, you can adapt the proportions according to the number of buds you have or the final amount of cream you want to obtain.

Material and ingredients needed to make CBD cream:

  • 50g dried CBD cannabis buds
  • 60g beeswax
  • 500ml of vegetable oil, we will use virgin olive oil
  • 1 liter of water
  • 3-5ml of essential oils
  • 1 fine cheesecloth to strain

Step 1. Extraction of cannabinoids and terpenes in vegetable oil

The first step is to prepare a cannabis oil, that is, to dissolve the cannabinoids and terpenes present in the buds in a vegetable oil (it can also be sunflower, almond, coconut, etc.). The choice of the type of oil will depend on the availability and the specific properties that you want to give to the cream. Once we have our marijuana oil, we will mix it with the beeswax in step 2 to get our cream. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves, let’s go step by step!

After 2-3 hours in which we are constantly stirring, we proceed to strain the mixture to separate the vegetable matter from the liquid. To do this we will use a fine strainer and gauze to filter.

Step 2. Preparation of the CBD cream

We have our cannabis oil already separated from the water and in a solid state. Now we pour it into a saucepan and give it a gentle heat, just enough to return it to its liquid state. Once achieved, we add the essential oils that we want (a few milliliters will be enough!) while stirring gently, and add the beeswax while stirring over low heat. As you will see later, the beeswax will give the cream the right texture once the mixture has cooled down.

It is important NOT to use this type of cream in areas where there are mucous membranes, such as the inside of the mouth or nose.

Uses of CBD cannabis creams

These types of creams with CBD are often used to treat various ailments such as muscle pain, arthritis or osteoarthritis , as the anti-inflammatory properties of some of the most important cannabinoids, such as THC and CBD, are well known. In addition, many cannabinoids and terpenes also have antibacterial and antifungal properties, Using the right vegetable and essential oils for each ailment can be very helpful in treating specific problems. You can use certain oils depending on their properties and the final result you want to obtain, such as a cream that helps you maintain skin in perfect condition, or an ointment that can treat pain or inflammation effectively Greetings!
