The CAT 2021 result is determined using the CAT exam’s final answer key. Each right answer is worth three points, and there is a one-point reduction for each incorrect response in MCQ questions; there is no negative marking in TITA questions. The raw CAT scores are then translated into scaled scores. The scaled scores are then turned into percentiles, in which the entire number of applicants is computed and assigned a rank, and the percentile is derived on that basis.

“To guarantee fairness and equity in comparing applicants’ results across multiple test sessions, the scores of candidates should be submitted to a procedure of Normalisation,” an official release explained the CAT normalization process.

“The Normalisation method will correct for location and scale disparities in score distributions across different forms,” it went on to say. The scores will be further normalized across different parts after being normalized across different forms. The Scaled Scores achieved through this approach will be transformed into percentiles for shortlisting purposes.”
