Is getting a crown painful for kids?

Introduction

The dental crowns are much easier to seat in adults as they understand and follow the directions. This could be like walking on thin ice when capping children’s teeth with the pediatric crowns. They feel uneasy and do not remain still when told to do so. That requires some trick, parental presence and later promise of treats on following the paediatric dentist. It also depends on the quality of the crown used to protect the tooth from disintegrating. The Acero crowns just fit the description.

The pediatric crowns cost is nominal in the stainless steel crowns category and goes up with porcelain, ceramic and zirconia. Stainless steel, porcelain and ceramic crowns are mostly used for kids. These are seated when the tooth structure is infested with decay, enamel erosion, sensitivity, broken and chipped tooth conditions too. These are first handled and then the primary tooth is prepared for the seating. The nerves in the oral cavity are ready to receive any sensation of the procedure involved. This is made numb with the local anaesthesia, which is injected and could make the toddler shudder in fear.

Crowned with Courage

It is perfectly normal to experience the tinge of irrigation, pain and sensitivity in the treated tooth region specially during the hours after the treatment. And while the procedure is conducted, local numbing is preferred to keep down the urge to feel the tooth with tongue and fingers. When the effect of the local anaesthesia wears off, it takes time to get adjusted to the new crown. The soft tissues and tooth pulp are set forth to accommodate the new casing of the afflicted tooth. This exterior must also get properly fitted against the opposite tooth when the child bites down.

Friction between the opposite tooth cusps would seem real in the beginning especially in the irritation phase of the post treatment timings. But in one or two days the feeling dims (tingling sensation) out like the effect of the drug used during the procedure. The discomfort with the toddlers can induce them to poke the crown with their tongue and push it with their fingers inserted in the mouth. This could aggravate the irritation over time and is harmful for the crown too. It may shift it’s orientation, get dislodged and hurt the soft tissue, tooth pulp it protects.
To curb such situations, it is recommended to take medicines prescribed by the dentist which kills the pain for those crucial days. Usually ibuprofen in minimized dosage which is meant for children, is prescribed to control the initial sensitivity. This must be given to the child only with the approval of their paediatric dentist. The crowns must be compatible with the prior tooth size and cusp shape. Like the jigsaw puzzle it must fit in the oral cavity. If the friction persists, visit the dentist again. The Acero crowns make sure the crowns are compatible with the specifications.
